In his earlier days Som Yadav used to stay at waiting halls of railway stations and show his acting skills to the gathering in the morning. When people started praising him he started cycling to and from Varanasi, 50 kms from Bhadohi and performing in theatres.
Som Yadav did more than two dozen dramas with Nagri Natak Mandali of Varanasi. His acting Guru Neel Kamal Chaterjee encouraged him to move to Mumbai where he joined Nadira in theatres. He also did many ad films during this period. Fortunately, director Iqbal Baksh recognised his talent and cast him in his film Hum Hain Munna Bhaiya as a second lead and as a lead player in Dil Tohare Pyaar Me Pagal Ho Gayeel.
Som Yadav happens to be a sole star in Bhojpuri cinema who has done a management course but left it for his passion of acting. He respects Dilip Kumar, Big B, Shahrukh Khan, and also Dinesh Lal yadav as his ideals. He says that Dinesh Lal is a complete actor. Som yadav praises Iqbal Baksh as a talented director who keeps an eye on everything, from the apparels to the camera angles. Som also praises Anara Gupta who gave him enough encouragement.
Som Yadav is as a main lead in Muqabila and Ram Lakhan as well. His fans claim Som is going to be the future Super Star of Bhojpuri cinema.
